Greetings to the 7th Congress of the Progressive Tribune of Bahrain
GREETINGS TO THE 7TH CONGRESS OF
THE PROGRESSIVE TRIBUNE OF BAHRAIN
December 8, 2015
COMRADE ABDULNABI SALMAN
PROGRESSIVE TRIBUNE OF BAHRAIN
Dear Comrade :
Through you, the Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas (PKP-1930, the Philippine Communist Party) sends warmest fraternal greetings to the 7TH Congress of the Progressive Tribune of Bahrain which will be held in Manama on December 11, 2015.
Your 7TH Congress will be held in very difficult conditions, considering the continuing political crisis in Bahrain stemming from the bloody crushing of the February 2011 uprising of the Bahraini people calling for greater political freedoms, for equality for the majority Shia population, and for an end to the tyrannical regime of King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
Only the brutal intervention by Saudi and UAE forces in March 2011 kept the despotic Al-Khalifa regime in power, and this led to the death of many peaceful protestors, the incarceration of almost 3,000 political detainees, the continuing prosecution of pro-democracy activists, the outrageous handing down of long prison terms upon opponents of the regime, and even the stripping of the Bahraini citizenship of Shia oppositionists.
Other protest actions against the Al-Khalifa dictatorship in the past 4 years have consistently been met with violent crackdowns and the use of tear gas and rubber bullets, brutal midnight raids on protest areas (especially in Shia neighborhoods), beatings at checkpoints, the persecution of protest activists and bloggers, and the denial to them of medical care in a campaign of intimidation.
The November 2012 report of the “Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry” itself confirmed that the Al-Khalifa regime systematically used torture and other forms of physical and psychological abuse on detainees, and committed widespread human rights violations. The Al-Khalifa dynasty’s next contender to the throne, Prince Nasser bin Hamad al-Khalifa, has even been linked to the widespread torture of political detainees and prisoners.
This general situation is made even more difficult for the Bahraini people with the Al-Khalifa regime’s recent reduction of subsidies for basic commodities on which the working peoples and other poor sectors depend. Considering all the above, we salute the Progressive Tribune of Bahrain for keeping up the struggle for democratic rights and economic development for the Bahraini people, the struggle against “Islamic State” (Da’esh) terrorism, and the struggle for national freedom from imperialist dictates.
We are certain that your 7TH Congress will chart a course towards strengthening the role of the Progressive Tribune of Bahrain in the National Democratic Movement in your country, given its experiences and lessons gained in over six decades of struggle.
We wish every success to your national democratic struggle towards socialism !
With communist greetings,
ANTONIO E. PARIS
General Secretary, PKP-1930
